1. Social Distancing 

Stay six feet away from others and avoid leaving your home whenever possible. Doing so can reduce your risk of exposure to the virus through vapors or droplets in the air, as well as hard surfaces. 

2. Wash Your Hands Often

Wash your hands for 20-30 seconds at a time. Wash them after shopping, picking up your mail, or pumping gas. 

3. Wear a Mask and Gloves in Public

If you’re 60 years of age or older, you should wear a mask and gloves every time you’re in public. Those with compromised immune systems or at high-risk of getting COVID-19 should do so, too, including those who: 

  • Are obese
  • Have diabetes
  • Have asthma or another lung disease
  • Have liver, kidney, or heart disease
  • Are immunocompromised, like those with HIV or cancer

4. Get Plenty of Rest

A 2017 study found that lack of sleep compromises the immune system and leaves it susceptible to attacks from pathogens. Try to get seven to nine hours of deep sleep each night.

5. Stay Hydrated

Water helps the body function optimally. It affects every system, from the tendons and bones to the immune system and heart.

6. Eat Healthy Foods

Eat a nutrient-dense diet with very few highly processed foods. Vitamins and minerals naturally found in foods can boost immune health.
